What You Want
Before starting your internship search, take some time to reflect on your strengths, skills, weaknesses, and passions. This self-reflection will help you find opportunities that align with your goals and set you up for future growth.
strengths
Think about what comes naturally to you. What
are the things you do well without much effort?
These are your strengths, and they’ll help
guide you to internships where you can excel
and feel confident.
Examples: Great communicator,
Strong problem-solver and leadership skills
weaknesses
Identifying areas where you can grow is just as important as knowing your strengths. Think about skills or tasks you struggle with and consider internships that can help you develop in these areas.
Examples: Public speaking, Technical skills, Organization
skills
What skills have you already developed? These could be skills you’ve learned in school, from hobbies, or from past jobs. Internships are a great opportunity to improve these skills and learn new ones. Examples: Writing and editing,
Data analysis, Time management
passions
What are you truly passionate about? Think about the activities or subjects that excite you the most. Internships that align with your passions will make the experience more enjoyable and meaningful.
Examples: Helping others, Working with technology, Creative design

networking
Like a Pro
To make the most of networking, be approachable and show interest in others’ careers. Practice a brief “elevator pitch” about yourself to confidently introduce who you are and what you’re passionate about. Follow up with a thank-you message after meeting someone, and stay in touch by sharing updates or asking for advice. Networking is an ongoing process, so keep building and nurturing relationships to open doors for future opportunities.
Networking is about building genuine relationships that can help you in your career. Start by connecting with people you already know, like family, friends, or teachers, and ask for advice or introductions. Attend events or use LinkedIn to meet professionals and expand your network. Focus on creating authentic connections rather than asking for favors.
